Bismillaahirrahmaanirraheem
here are some excerpts from Q&A session from Islamonline.net regarding Udhiyah(qurban) and Eid-Al-Adha
Q: Is it permissible to donate the udhiyah through the internet? I mean donating the price to a trustworthy online organization to slaughter the animal on one’s behalf. Is this permissible?
A: Yes, it is permissible. Wakalah or to delegate someone to undertake the whole operation is permissible. This is applicable if you are delegating a person or an organization. According to the Shafi'e school of fiqh, you are even allowed to authorize a dhimi (Christian or Jew) to do the udhiyah on your behalf. What matters here is the delegated person or organization must be trustworthy. However, this does not rule out the fact that it is better for the person to attend at the time of slaughtering the udhiyah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Fatima, "Go and witness your udhiyah, for Allah forgives you upon the first release of blood." But based on the law of priorities, if the udhiyah is meant for serving or feeding the most deserving people, then wakalah can be given priority in this case. Allah Almighty knows best.
Q: I am an Indian, my husband is also Indian. But we are living in Oman as we are working here. I request you to kindly advice me whether we can perform UDHIYAH here. And we are doing this for the first time so can you please guide me with the do's and don'ts of performing UDHIYAH. I shall be very thankful to you for your answer. Anticipating your reply.
A: Yes, you can make udhiyah in Oman. If you are slaughtering a sheep, then it should be one-year old at least; if you slaughter a cow, it should be two-year old; and if you slaughter a camel, it should be at least four-year old. The animal should be healthy and free from defects such as blindness, etc. The best type of udhiyah is the mutton. One animal is enough for you and your family. The time for slaughtering the udhiyah starts after the Eid prayer and ends up at the sunset of the fourth day of Eid. The Sunnah is to divide the udhiyah into three parts: one for the family, one for the friends and neighbours, and one for the poor and needy. You are not allowed to slaughter the udhiyah before the Eid prayer. It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a man who slaughtered his udhiyah before the Eid prayer to do it again. You are not allowed to give a share of the udhiyah to the butcher as a payment.
